Berwin & Berwin is a fourth generation quality manufacturer and distributor of men’s tailoring. During 2015, Berwin & Berwin celebrated 130 years in business.

Unrivalled distribution has enabled Berwin & Berwin to become one of the largest suit producers to the European market.

Our History

1885

Founded by Barnet Berwin, a master tailor originally from Belarus, Russia.

1920

Berwin & Berwin established in Leeds.

1992

Acquired Langthwaite Grange, increasing capacity from 1,500 to 6,500 suits per week.

1997

Acquired total menswear licence for Daniel Hechter in UK and Eire.

2000

Ceased production at Leeds site.

2001

Took over five production units in Hungary – ELIT International.

2002

Ceased production at Langthwaite Grange site.

2003

Chester by Chester Barrie created and launched.

2004

Opened retail concessions in House of Fraser – 14 stores.

2005

Extended retail concessions in House of Fraser to 40 stores.

2006

CHINA: JV signed 18th January. Production commenced in September.
Paul Costelloe menswear licence signed – Range launched October 2007.

2008

Bought 29.9% stake in Moss Bros.
Lambretta menswear licence signed – Range launched June 2009.

2009

HUNGARY: Now one production unit – 3,500 suits per week.
Paul Costelloe realigned (to replace Chester by Chester Barrie) into Modern British Tailoring.
Baumler Fashion formed in Munich.

2012

Berwin & Berwin provide tailoring for all male Olympic officials and male Team GB for the London 2012 Olympics.
Moss stake sold.

2013

New Baumler concessions opened in House of Fraser.

2014

New offices opened in London and Ingolstadt.
Opened in Vietnam in September.
